ZEV SCHERL NAMED AS HONORARY CHAIR OF EARLY

STAGE EAST’S BIOLIFE TECH CONFERENCE

Over 200 Entrepreneurs and Investors Expected to Attend

King of Prussia, PA – October 16, 2006– NewSpring Capital is pleased to announce that Zev Scherl, General Partner of NewSpring Capital, has been named as the Honorary Chair of Early Stage East’s Bio•Life•Tech Conference. This year’s event will be held December 4th in Princeton, NJ. “We are thrilled to have Zev Scherl and NewSpring Capital involved in Bio·Life·Tech this year,” said Amy Aiq, Director of Early Stage East.

The conference brings together more than 200 entrepreneurs, CEOs, investors and venture capitalists to one of the country’s most productive areas for life science innovation and investment.

About Zev Scherl

Mr. Scherl is a General Partner of NewSpring Healthcare (“CHV”) and NewSpring Capital, with significant experience in principal investing, corporate management and finance, focused exclusively in the life sciences and healthcare industries. Prior to CHV, Zev worked with Pequot Ventures, which manages venture funds in excess of $1 billion, within Pequot Capital, which manages approximately $8 billion. With Pequot Ventures, he originated and successfully executed investments in emerging life sciences and healthcare companies, whose technologies include (but are not limited to) computational genomics, diabetes and orthopedics, and served on many corporate boards. Mr. Scherl is currently a board member of AppTec Laboratory Services, Inc., Scandius BioMedical, Inc., Nitric BioTherapeutics, EKR Therapeutics, Inc., and Immune Control, Inc. Mr. Scherl received a BA with honors in economics from Duke University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
